Coastal Vibes

Through use of natural light, soft tones, and the client’s vision of a clean aesthetic, The Custom Space were able to achieve the year round feel of summer in this new build in Richmond. Head designer Nic Smith shares some key colours, design elements and styling tips to keep in mind when building or transforming your own home, to get a coastal kitchen look.

  1. Choose natural materials like wood and stone ensure effortless style.

  2. Let there be light. Larger windows and doors are key to creating an indoor/outdoor flow andmaking a room look more spacious and giving natural materials life. Skylights are perfect for allowing more natural light in.

  3. Choose a colour palette which is light and airy with pale chalky hues mimicking sea, sand and shells.

  4. Accent these hues with beachy textures and fabrics such as a seagrass or jute rug, textured tiles and sheer or linen curtains.

  5. Style with minimalistic décor that reflects natural coastal vibes to say “summer getaway” all year round.
